26-APR-2015: Children of different Aligarh Muslim University schools participated in poster making cum slogan writing competition at the University's UGC Human Resource Development Centre on the 'World Earth Day'.
In the competitions held for increasing awareness on environmental issues and care for the planet earth, AMU school students made posters and wrote original slogans on saving natural resources, biodiversity and the tiger.
Director, UGC HRDC, AMU Professor Abdur Raheem Kidwai appreciated the enthusiasm of the students in bringing out their talents and creative energies for the cause of the environment.
Prof Kidwai said that co-curricular activities such as these go a long way in helping students achieve well-rounded personalities as adults.
Coordinator, English Access, Micro-Scholarship programme, Dr Amirullah Khan motivated these students to conceive ideas and make posters, drawings, paintings and write slogans for their presentations.
Assistant Coordinator Dr Faiz Zaidi said that the entries will be put up at the National Coordinator's Meet in Ahmedabad later this month organised by the American Centre, New Delhi.
He added that the Regional English Language Officer of the American Centre will evaluate the work of the students and judge them for prizes.
Dr Faiza Abbasi, coordinator of the Personality Development programmes under the scheme at the UGC HRDC, AMU, sensitized children on the significance of the world earth day.
She shared reading material on the history of the event and the importance of saving water, green cover and biodiversity to maintain sustainability for the future.
Teachers of AMU Access team Dr Munira T, Dr Mohd Sajidul Islam, Dr Shahzad Siddiqui and Dr Sherin Sherwani supervised the activities and interacted with the participants.
Two hundred under-privileged children from the AMU schools in the age group 12-16 are enrolled in the English Access Micro-scholarship Programme sponsored by the American Centre, New Delhi currently underway in its third phase at the UGC Human Resource Development Centre, AMU.
