28-APR-2015: Aligarh Muslim University's Department of Geography Researcher, Dr Mohammad Muqeet Khan recently delivered a presentation on 'Spatial Analysis of Market Infrastructural Facilities and Socio Economic Development in Rural India' at the National Research University Higher School of Economics (HSE), Moscow, Russia.
Dr Khan was awarded 'World Bank Sponsorship' for participation in XVI International Academic Conference on Economic and Social Development at HSE, Moscow.
He delivered the presentation under a thematic session on New Economic Geography organized by Centre for Market Studies and Spatial Economics, HSE Moscow.
Dr Khan was among the 10 researchers and academicians from across the globe, who was awarded the sponsorship. The other awardees were from Germany, Bulgaria, Armenia, Hungary, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Tunisia and Turkey.
During his visit to HSE, Moscow, Dr Khan was also invited for a round table session on 'Trans-Eurasian Corridors and their Impact on the Russian and the World Economics'. Distinguished academicians and scholars attended the event from more than 25 countries across the globe.
In his presentation, he highlighted that the market centres in rural India are not only the place of commercial activities but also the growth pole for the economic, social as well as cultural development of their respective hinterland.
"The development of markets implies the economic development and their growth promotes the development of agriculture, road networks and transportation, and facilitates the employment generation among different socio-economic classes of participants," stated his presentation.
Dr Khan's presentation also throws light on development of markets in terms of increase in the number of shops, availability of different kinds of commodities, urban and non-agricultural goods, improvement of basic infrastructural facilities and services leading to the increase in proportion of market participants and higher employment generation in rural India.
Awarded Phd under the supervision of Prof Nizamuddin Khan, he is the recipient of Senior Research Fellowship (2014) and UGC Basic Scientific Research Fellowship (2012), ISPRS Fellowship (China, 2014), Fritz Thyssen Stiftung Award (Germany, 2013), International Graduate Scholar Grant (Japan, 2013) and Best Paper Award (Malaysia, 2011).
Dr Khan has also published his research findings in journals of National and International repute. He is a member of various National and International academic bodies of USA, UK, Japan, China and Germany. His fields of research interests are Geomarketing, Business GIS & Rurality.
