05-MAY-2015: Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College's Department of Pharmacology Associate Professor Dr Syed Ziaur Rahman was recently invited to deliver a guest lecture at World Health Organization sponsored CME on Drug Safety and Pharmacovigilance, held at Saraswathi Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS), Hapur.
During the guest lecture, Dr Rahman spoke on the increasing use and harmful effects of pharmaceutical prescription, over-the-counter therapeutic drugs, agricultural and veterinary drugs.
He informed that presence of pharmaceuticals even at very low concentrations in our food and drinking water is a major concern.
He further discussed a number of critical issues regarding the occurrence, human health effects and treatment; disposal options for pharmaceuticals and personal care products in the environment; food; drinking water and wastewater treatment systems.
The CME was organized by Professor Anand Shukla, Head Department of Pharmacology, SIMS, Hapur. Other speakers were scientists working under the Pharmacovigilance Program of India (PvPI) in collaboration with the global ADR monitoring centre (WHO-UMC), Sweden. A Large number of students and faculty members of SIMS attended the program. Dr Imran Zaheer, Department of Pharmacology, JNMC also attended the program.
