17-SEP-2015: Ms Shumaila Shahid, a research scholar in the Department of Plant Protection, Aligarh Muslim University has recently qualified the Agricultural Scientists Recruitment Board (A.S.R.B.) exam and got selected as a Scientist in Plant Pathology.
Ms. Shumaila is one among the twenty candidates who have successfully qualified ARS this year nationwide. With this achievement she gets entitled to be posted in any relevant Agricultural Institute of I.C.A.R. under Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India. Ms Shumaila is the only research scholar to qualify ARS in the history of last 20 years of AMU.
Professor Mujeebur Rahman Khan, Department of Plant Protection, AMU, under whose supervision Ms Shumaila is pursuing her PhD on ‚??Integrated management aspects of root rot of mungbean caused by Macrophomina phaseolina, a soil-borne fungal pathogen‚??, informed that Ms Shumaila was a Gold Medalist in M Sc at the Department as well as faculty level and was awarded Merit scholarship in it. He said that she had also qualified ICAR-SRF PGs examination after the course apart from qualifying National Eligibility Test thrice as well as GATE. Professor Khan further informed that Ms Shumaila has 11 publications in peer reviewed International and National Journals and her PhD programme has been supported by the prestigious INSPIRE fellowship awarded by the Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi.
Professor Khan informed that the Agricultural Scientists Recruitment Board (A.S.R.B.) is a body which is parallel to other recruitment boards like Railway recruitment board, Civil services recruitment board etc. and is meant for the recruitment of Agricultural Scientists in India. He said that ARS is exactly on the pattern of I.A.S. and its selection includes Preliminary examination, Mains written examination followed by an interview for written selected candidates.
