19-SEP-2015: Some mischievous elements, taking advantage of the sad demise of Mr. Alamgir, a final year student of Bachelor of Social Work (BSW), tried to create a chaos at the Aligarh Muslim University campus by circulating a message on Whats App that the ‚??Namaz-e-Janaza (Ghaibana)‚?? (Funeral prayer in absentia) of the slain student will be held at 1 pm today at the Vice Chancellor‚??s lodge.
Taking a serious note of this message spread by the mischievous elements, the Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah, said that such attempts would not be allowed to succeed and force the administration to close the University sine die. He said that the mischievous elements tried to collect a mob at his residence and create and vitiate the atmosphere.
The Vice Chancellor said, ‚??We are determined that the University continues to function in a normal manner. Any sine die closure at this juncture would totally be against the interests of the institution‚??.
Lt. Gen. Shah said that AMU will demand a CBI probe into the above incident. A formal request in this connection will shortly be made by the University, he added.
The members of the teaching community are by and large aware of the ‚??sinister designs‚?? of those elements who are trying to destabilize the institution, according to the Vice Chancellor. He said that a large number of teachers arrived at his house this afternoon and expressed their solidarity in helping him in facing the present challenge. The Vice Chancellor said that he held discussions with senior district officials to chalk out a plan for implementing all precautionary measures and tightening the security at the campus.
The Vice Chancellor said that the deceased was a studious student of the University and he was determined to trace the culprits of yesterday‚??s ghastly murder and would spare no efforts in ensuring that justice is meted out in this case.
The Vice Chancellor offered his condolences to the victim‚??s family and fully shared their grief on this tragic loss. He prayed that the deceased student‚??s soul may rest in peace.
AMU spokesperson, Dr. Rahat Abrar said that an FIR has been lodged by the Proctorial staff of the University with the Civil Lines Police Station, Aligarh.
