22-SEP-2015: Vice Chancellor, Aligarh Muslim University, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah has ordered for a vacation in the Ahmadi School for Visually Challenged till September 27, 2015 on the occasion of Eid-ulAdha following protest by the students against non-availability of mobile phones to them. The hostel inmates of the school have been told to proceed to their homes during Eid-ul-Adha vacation.
Principal of the School, Mrs. Firdaus Rahman said that the students started shouting and banging doors when the electricity supply went off. "The resident warden tried to control them but they started damaging the school property and broke door and window panes, threw away the computer in warden room and torn off important documents including students and their parents' undertakings", added Mrs. Rahman.
The Principal, in a written complaint to the Vice Chancellor, has said that the students were so furious that they did not even paid any heed to the appeals made by the Proctorial staff and damaged the Principal's car and tried to barge into her residence located in the School premises. She said that they were waving iron rods and heavy sticks which hit their fellows causing injuries. Later, injured students were taken to the casualty for cure, she added.
Mrs. Firdaus Rahman said that the errant behavior of the students has caused gross damage to school property and raised security concerns for the girl students living on the school campus.
Responding to the demands of the students to allow them mobile phones and frequent visits to outside market places, the Principal said that the Vice Chancellor had agreed to allow students to go to the University Gymnasium and Swimming Pool and could be permitted to have a mobile phone which would be in possession of the Resident Warden.
Referring to the students' demand for food at par with that of STS High School, Mrs. Firdaus Rahman said that all the students of Ahmadi School were provided breakfast, lunch, dinner, evening tea and 200 gram milk at night free of cost while the STS High School students had to pay a monthly mess charge for their food.
Mrs. Firdaus Rahman said that presently there were 65 male and 30 female students. She said that the school administration is contacting parents to inform them of the acts of indiscipline committed by their wards.
AMU spokesperson said, "The University provides two uniforms to the students every year free of cost with the washing facility. A tailor is also called to school every week for cloth repairing of the students while the school also makes special arrangements for upkeep of their bed and other utensils".
