16-DEC-2015: Professor Salman Beg, who retired from the Department of Electrical Engineering, Z. H. College of Engineering and Technology, Aligarh Muslim University, breathed his last yesterday. Prof. Beg, 75, is survived by his widow, a daughter and his son, Prof. Mohd. Abu Sufiyan Beg, presently Principal of Z. H. College of Engineering and Technology.
His last rites were performed at the University graveyard at 9 pm yesterday night in presence of an unprecedented large gathering of people including the Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Brig. S. Ahmad Ali, Registrar Dr. Asfar Ali Khan, Finance Officer, Prof. S. M. Javaid Akhtar and Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology Prof. Mohibullah.
Prof. Salman Beg was known for his philanthropic and religious activities and patronized a number of Madrasas. He played a key role in the construction of Sir Syed Nagar Jama Masjid and made an arrangement for Hifz-e-Quran. He had been associated with the Tableeghi Jama'at and was considered a role model. He also took interest in the administrative affairs of the Aligarh Muslim University during his service period.
AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah has expressed a deep sense of sorrow on his demise and prayed for the solace for the bereaved family.
