22-JAN-2016: The Faculty of Medicine, Aligarh Muslim University recently organized an 'Orientation Programme' for the interns of the 2011 Batch of J N Medical College and Z A Dental College to give them an understanding of applying, consolidating and expanding their clinical knowledge and skills. The 'Orientation Programme' was aimed at helping the interns in progressively increasing their responsibility for providing safe and high quality patient care.
After inaugurating the Orientation Programme, the Aligarh Muslim University Pro Vice Chancellor, Brigadier S Ahmad Ali (retd) also inaugurated the simulation lab equipments for cardio pulmonary resuscitation. The Pro Vice Chancellor inaugurated the equipments of the simulation lab for CPR by performing resuscitation on the mannequin.
The students were divided into small groups, were shown steps of CPR, and were encouraged to do hands on training on the mannequins and new gadgets like the pocket CPR device.
The Pro Vice Chancellor emphasized that with their academics, the interns should also take part in sports and engage in a healthy physical routine.
Professor Shahjahan Bano, Dean, Faculty of Medicine and Prof Tamkin Khan, Department of Gynecology explained the interns their responsibilities while addressing at the Programme.
During the Programme, Prof Tariq Mansoor, Principal and CMS of JNMC said that this programme will make the interns understand in details the daily procedures in various wards of a hospital.
Prof R K Tiwari, Principal, Z A Dental College said that internships help medical graduates to become good doctors.
Prof Seema Hakim, Chairman, Department of Gynecology and Co-ordinator, Medical Education Unit gave the introduction and outline of programme in her address.
'The importance of blood in saving lives and its sampling, transfusion awareness and reaction' were explained by Prof S H Arif.
'Necessity of efficient communication skills' was demonstrated through a wonderful skit and presentation by Dr Zehra Mohsin.
While explaining the concepts of infection prevention through simple yet effective measures like hand washing and scrubbing, Prof Haris M Khan and Dr Mehr Rizvi also illustrated ways of bio-medical waste disposal.
Prof Haris also spoke on various legislations related to waste management and highlighted the facilities present at JNMCH for proper waste disposal.
Prof M Amanullah Khan and Dr Shahbaz H Faridi talked about 'Stabilising the patient.... Identifying and managing a surgical emergency' during their address to the interns.'
Prof M K A Sherwani addressed the gathering on 'Trauma and Accidents: What is Expected from Interns'.
Prof H S Khan gave tips to the interns on giving referrals to the patients during the talk on 'How to quickly arrive at a diagnosis' during the programme.
Prof Afzal Anees spoke on 'Responsibilities of interns in wards: Observe, learn and seizing opportunity'. He also talked about psychomotor aspects and attitude of interns.
In the post lunch session Dr Ruhi Khan and Dr Lubna Zafar spoke on 'Record keeping: Role of an intern' while Dr M kaleem talked about Medico-legal case in emergency.
Dr S Moied Ahmed, Dr Shahna Ali with their team explained the CPR- cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, its steps and benefits to the interns.
Prof Abdul Quadir, Prof M A Khan were also present on the occasion.
The inaugural ceremony was hosted by Dr Shahna Ali.
