04-Feb-2016: Dr. Ziauddin Ahmad Dental College of the Aligarh Muslim University organized a cancer awareness programme on World Cancer Day.
The program, which was aimed at creating awareness among people regarding healthy diet, regular exercise, immunization, screening, avoiding risky behaviour like tobacco alcohol consumption etc, was inaugurated by Prof. R. K. Tewari, Principal, Dr. Z. A. Dental College.
Prof. Tewari said that revenue generated from tobacco industries is far less than what government is funding for prevention and treatment of Cancer so it is the high time that Government of India takes appropriate steps to put a blanket ban on tobacco production and its consumption.
Dr. Neha Agrawal, highlighting the aims and importance of observance of this program, shed light on the prevalence of cancer around the globe, including India. She said that oral cancer was the most common cause of preventable death in India.
Dr. Sarwar stressed the need of early detection and prevention of oral cancer, role of dentists in early diagnosis and change in policy by the government in relation to tobacco industries.
Dr Pramod, Dr. Neha and other Interns educated the public regarding the ill effects of tobacco and motivated the patients for improving quality of life by not indulging in these habits.
Dr. N. D. Gupta, Chairperson, Department of Periodontology and Public Health Dentistry, Dr. Sandhya Maheswari, Dr. Kausar J. Khwaja, Dr. Gulam Sarwar Hashmi, Dr. M. K. Jindal, Dr. Anshul Agrawal, Dr. Masood H. Khan, Dr. Shakshi, Dr. Arbab, Dr. Aditi and Dr. Pankaj were present on the occasion.
