09-MAR-2016: "Biomedical Sciences is an important discipline with an explosion of information and application in various disciplines of science, engineering and medicine", said Professor Ahmad Waseem, Queensmary University, London, UK. He was addressing the international Conference on "Emerging Trends in Biomedical Sciences" (ETBS-2016) at the Department of Biochemistry, Aligarh Muslim University as Chief Guest, on his first ever visit to India.
Professor Waseem said that the revolution in biological and medical sciences has impacted academicians, scientists and industrialists alike. He highlighted that the extreme hard work of the faculty members and the students has led to the success of the Conference. He thanked Professor Qayyum Hussain, Organizing Secretary of the Conference and also Professor Imrana Naseem, Chairperson, Department of Biochemistry for undertaking such an excellent effort. The AMU has been subject to significant transformations during the tenure of Lt Gen Zameeruddin Shah as the Vice Chancellor.
Professor Qayyum Hussain said that biomedical science is the quest for knowledge about how organisms and pathogens function and thus an important driving force in enriching the quality of human life. He highlighted that the three-day international conference has proved to be successful in bringing together several international and national scientists to share their valuable experiences and updating our young budding scientists about the latest developments in the theme area.
Professor Imrana Naseem thanked the students and staff of the Department who have employed their best possible efforts in making the Conference a success. She hoped for the betterment of future research and collaborations with the world renowned scientist in the field of biomedical sciences.
Professor Tariq Haqqi, Northeast Ohio Medical University, USA, Professor Islam Khan, Kuwait University, Professor MAQ Pasha, CSIR-Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology, New Delhi, Professor Qi-En Wang, USA, Dr Devendra Parmar, CSIR-IITR, Lucknow, Dr Rahul Pal, National Institute of Immunology, New Delhi and Professor Altaf A Wani, USA also addressed on the occasion as Guests of Honor.
The conference also included Poster and Oral presentation competitions. Dr Navin Kumar, JNU and Ms Hadiya Husain, AMU stood first and second respectively in the poster presentation competition whereas Dr Zeenat Iqbal from Jamia Hamdard won the Oral presentation competition.
