16-MAR-2016: The Department of Civil Engineering, Aligarh Muslim University is organizing the Second National Workshop on "Seismic Safety of Structures" on 23rd March at 10:30 AM.
Professor Rehan A Khan, Organizing Secretary of the Workshop informed that a large number of participants from various academic institutions, government and non-government organizations are likely to participate in this event. He further informed that the workshop shall bring together Professionals and Academicians committed to reducing the impact of earthquakes on civil engineering structures and their restoration. Professor Khan said that Professor Chandan Ghosh, Head of the Geo-Hazard Risk Management Division, NIDM, New Delhi, Professor S Bhalla, IIT-Delhi and Professor Mehtab Alam, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi will grace the occasion as Chief Guests.
Professor Shakeel Ahmad, the Convener of the Workshop said that Earthquake, being one of the most devastating and frequent calamities, has been a matter of concern for scientists and engineers since long. He informed that the recent earthquakes of Jammu & Kashmir, Bhuj, Uttarkashi and Nepal have further added to the concern of civil engineers and brought the need for more earthquake resistant structures. Professor Ahmad further said that keeping in view the Govt's inclination towards promoting education and research in the area of earthquake engineering, the Department of Civil Engineering has planned to organize the Workshop.
