23-AUG-2016: The high spirited words of Rabindranath Tagore's nationalistic rendition, "Jana Gana Mana" found a mass chorus at the Aligarh Muslim University when more than three thousand students today joined the singing of the National Anthem at the University's Athletics Ground to celebrate "Azadi 70 - Yaad Karo Kurbani", a commemorative programme marking the end of a fortnight-long 70th Independence day celebrations.
Mr. Subhash Chandra Sharma, Commissioner, Aligarh Division graced the occasion as Chief Guest.
On the occasion of 70th anniversary of adopting "Jana Gana Mana" as the National Anthem of India, the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India had urged all the Central Universities to organize the "mass singing of the Anthem at 11 am on 23rd August 2016 in a befitting manner".
Addressing the celebration, AMU Vice Chancellor Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah said that it was a very special occasion to celebrate 70th anniversary of India's independence and presence of a large number of students was a indicative of their love for their motherland.
Lt. Gen. Shah said that he was striving to make AMU best in the country. He announced that all the University-maintained schools will receive one thousand computers from University's Chancellor, Dr. Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin and this ICT facility would assist the students in the betterment of their career.
Earlier, Prof. Mohammad Gulrez, Director of the School education welcomed the guests and highlighted the importance of the grand celebration.
Prof. F. S. Shirani, Coordinator, Cultural Education Centre said that it was a novel way to cherish the freedom and pay tribute to the great National Anthem. He expressed gratitude to the participants and thanked the Principals and teachers of the University schools for their support.
Deans of Faculties, Principals of Colleges and Provosts of Halls of residence also graced the occasion.
