08-SEP-2016: Eminent journalist, independent columnist and author, Ms Rana Ayub recently delivered a lecture and a book-reading session on 'Writing as a means of protest: Issues of freedom of expression and censorship' at the University Polytechnic Auditorium.
The lecture and the book-reading session, which was attended by over 400 teachers, students, scholars and dignitaries was organised by University Debating and Literary Club, Cultural Education Centre, AMU.
While speaking on the importance of freedom of speech, Ms Ayub said that there are attempts to restrict freedom of speech and we need to overcome these restrictions by speaking freely.
Talking about the publication of her book and the issues it raised, Ms Ayub urged the youth to raise their voices against wrong doings.
"Even though I am called the most trolled person but I am happy to have raised my voice," said Ms Ayub adding that she raised her voice to aware people and to open their eyes.
Ms Ayub added that she has always believed that propaganda can only be countered by speaking truth and reading the right things as we need to be aware about our history and present.
While introducing the gathering about Ms Ayub's work, Dr Mohibul Haque, Department of Political Science talked about Ms Ayub's courage, which is seen in her book 'Gujarat Files - anatomy of a cover up'. He added that Ms Ayub's book is a must read.
Mr Wajahat Jilani hosted the event. Mr Syed Siraj Ajmali, President of the University Debating and Literary Club did the commencement of the program.
