12-SEP-2016: The Aligarh Muslim University has made it clear that there has been no misuse of funds or scam in the University as reported by a section of media sometime back. It is further clarified that all expenditures have been made with due process and scrutiny and are genuine and bonafide.
AMU Finance Officer, Prof. S. M. Jawed Akhtar said that the Audit Inspection Report (AIR) on the Accounts of the University was conducted by the Principal Director (Audit) during the financial year 2014-15. After the audit was conducted, the AIR was received from the Office of the Principal Director (Central), Lucknow Branch Office Allahabad on 14.05.2016. In the Audit Inspection Report, a total of 58 audit objections were raised which comprised 30 anonymous complaints and 28 audit objections. The replies for all 58 objections were sent to Principal Director (Central), Lucknow by the Finance Officer, AMU.
Prof. Akhtar said that for reasons not clear, these anonymous complaints were included as the Audit objections. The fact is that without due verification of facts any complaint cannot become the part of the audit paras. The issue was also discussed by the University Officers with the Principal Director, Lucknow.
Prof. Akhtar clarified that on the basis of the replies given by the University and the discussions held with the Principal Director, the Deputy Director (Audit) has communicated to the University through letter dated 05.09.2016 that all the anonymous and frivolous complaints (30) have been detached from the audit objections. More significantly 20 objections out of 28 objections have been resolved and settled finally. For remaining eight objections, additional information has been sought. The main settled audit objections include Construction work of Rs.75.00 crores of 1500 Bedded Female Hostel, Expenditure of Rs.10.62 crores on Campus Development, Excess expenditure of Rs 4.08 crores on Residential Coaching Academy, Labour Cess amounting to Rs. 3 crores, Utilization of allocated budget of Rs. 2.19 crores for Trauma Centre, Expenditure Rs. 1.13 crores of Maintenance Grant on Repairs of University Buildings etc.
The Finance Officer informed that the remaining objections, which involve nominal amount will be reviewed by the Team of Audit Party, Allahabad later on and fresh replies are in the process of submission to AG, UP.
