23-SEP-2016: Dr Mahvish Anjum, Post Doctorate Fellow, associated with the Department of Geography, Aligarh Muslim University recently attended the 33rd International Geographical Congress held in Beijing, China where she presented a paper titled, 'Spatial Analysis on Occupational Health of Unorganised Sector Workers in Ambedkar nagar District, India.'
While the International Congress was hosted by 33rd IGC Organising Committee representing the Geographical Society of China, the theme of the Congress was 'Shaping Our Harmonious Worlds', which highlighted today's common pursuits for harmony between mankind and nature, between environment and society and for harmonious approaches to the world hazards and conflict.
During the Congress, Dr Anjum presented her paper in the 'Health and Health Care' session. The session was chaired by Eva Pilot of Maastricht University.
Dr Anjum's paper was well appreciated by the president of the session.
"The aim of my paper was to examine the health status and working conditions of cottage industry workers," said Dr Anjum adding that the results of the study reveal a strong positive link between the socio-economic conditions, work conditions and resultant health problems of workers.
Dr Anjum also interacted with eminent geographers from various institutions including Prof Ghazi Wahd, University of Akrom; Prof El Hassane, University of Cadi Ayyad; Dr Fatima El Bchari, University of Cadi Ayyad; Dr Zhang Xiao Yin, RIMD, Guangzhou, Academy of Social Sciences and Mr Cong Weibing, Zhongke Zhintu Education Technology among others.
Besides the paper presentation at the programme, Dr Anjum also participated in the opening ceremony. Dr Anjum is working under the guidance of Prof Nizamuddin Khan. She received financial assistance from the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) to attend the programme.
