14-OCT-2016: The elected representatives of the Women's College Students Union today took the oath to execute their duties in the presence of Aligarh Muslim University Vice Chancellor, Lt General Zameer Uddin Shah (Veteran).
During the Installation Ceremony, the President elect, Naghma Shareef; Vice President elect, Farheen Sherwani; Secretary elect, Utba Israr Sheikh and ten other cabinet members pledged during their oaths to perform to the best of their abilities and promised to adhere the rules and regulations.
Addressing the ceremony, the Vice Chancellor said the speeches given by the elected representatives of the Women's College are par excellence and these candidates clearly show the abilities to be the future leaders of the country.
"For women empowerment in India, there is need of young leaders like the Women's College Union members and there is no doubt that these Union members have all the qualities to become the torch-bearers," said the Vice Chancellor.
The Vice Chancellor said that he holds full faith in Women's College students and is sure that the Union members and other students will keep their focus on studies and gaining knowledge.
He pointed out that this year's Women's College and AMUSU elections have set an example in gender equality and representation of girls in the University as at least three girl students have been selected as AMUSU Cabinet members for the first time and there is also a very strong Women's College Students Union in existence.
Gen Shah promised to take care of the justified demands of the Women' College students Union, which are in the interest of the University. He further promised to start work on the coaching centre and the prayer room.
Prof Naeema K Khatoon, Principal, Women's College congratulated the cabinet members and thanked the teachers and students for a peaceful conduct of the elections.
She later answered the queries of the elected Union members by informing them about the new developments in the college under the aegis of the Vice Chancellor.
Newly elected President of the Women's College students Union, Ms Nagma Shareef empathised on the need of improvement in food facilities, availability of new books and personality development classes.
Vice President, Women's College students Union, Ms Farheen Sherwani also demanded better living and infrastructural facilities along with fortification of the Abdullah Hall and prayer rooms in the Women's College premises.
Secretary, Women's College Students Union, Ms Utba Israr talked about the need for games facilities, appointment of new teachers, replacement of old books with new ones in the Women's College Library, facilities of water coolers in the hostels and the campus.
Ms Sabiha Simi Shah garlanded the winners while Prof Ruhi Abida Ahmad welcomed the guests. Prof Romana Siddiqui, Provost, Abdullah Hall proposed the vote of thanks.
