14-OCT-2016: The Department of Civil Engineering, Z H College of Engineering and Technology, Aligarh Muslim University today organized a one-day National Workshop on 'Advances in Sustainable Concrete Construction' under Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP-II).
Aligarh Muslim University Pro Vice Chancellor, Brigadier S Ahmad Ali (Veteran), who attended the Programme as the Chief Guest congratulated the organizers for a successful workshop on the pertinent topic.
He emphasized the need for developing low cost concrete and also stressed on the need of having integrity in the profession. He also talked on the need for developing durable and quality infrastructure.
Prof M Arif, Chairman, Department of Civil Engineering, delivered the key-note address on 'Role of Nanotechnology in Concrete'. He highlighted role of additives in achieving sustainability in concrete.
Er Shashi Gaggar, Vice President, Ultratech Cements, delivered a lecture on 'Sustainability-A role of Cements'. He also showed various examples of construction across the country using supplementary cementitious materials.
Prof Chandan Ghosh, Head, GHRMD, NIDM, New Delhi delivered a lecture on 'The world of Special purpose Concrete- An overview'. He described the usage of special concretes in construction of buildings. He also emphasized on the usage of high performance concrete for achieving better sustainability.
Prof D R Sahoo, Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Delhi, New Delhi delivered a lecture on "Performance based Design of Concrete". He explained the importance of need based design technique. He also explained the problems in construction of earthquake resistant structures.
Prof Shamim Ahmad, Prof S Shah, Prof Abdul Baqi and Prof Rehan A Khan and other faculty members participated in the workshop.
Prof Mumtaz Ahmad Khan, Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Prof M M Sufyan Beg, Principal ZHCET, were the guest of honor on the occasion.
Prof Abdul Baqi, Convener of the workshop introduced the theme of workshop and Organizing secretary Dr Rizwan A Khan proposed the vote of thanks.
