19-OCT-2016: Dr Ali Jafar Abedi, Assistant Professor, Department of Community Medicine, J N Medical College and University Health Officer recently delivered, key note address at the National Conference on 'Nutritional, Functional and Safety Challenges of Food and Health Issues in the Current Scenario.'
The conference was organised by the Department of Food and Nutrition, Ethelind School of Home Science, Sam Higginbottom Institute of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences, Allahabad.
While delivering the key note address, Dr Abedi said that India is facing double burden of infectious diseases and non-communicable or life style diseases. He also pointed out that India has become the capital of TB and diabetes.
He further spoke on how obesity in children is increasing because of unhealthy food items.
He added that people in lower socio-economic status are unable to access the food produces leaving them undernourished, so policy makers should plan for better accessibility of food to these populations at cheaper rates.
Dr Abidi also pointed out that if we are able to improve the nutritional status of the community especially children, it will help build the healthy India.
