29-OCT-2016: The Department of Civil Engineering, Z H College of Engineering and Technology, Aligarh Muslim University recently organized a one-day National Workshop on "Reliability and Structural Reliability" under Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP-II).
AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt General Zameer Uddin Shah (Veteran) graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while Professor Mumtaz Ahmad Khan, Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Prof M M Sufyan Beg , Principal ZHCET were the Guests of Honour.
Prof Mohammed Arif, Chairman, Department of Civil Engineering welcomed the guests, resource persons and participants.
During the programme, Prof T K Datta, Professor, IIT Delhi delivered a lecture on fundamental of structural reliability. He emphasized on the different type of uncertainties involved in the reliability analysis of structures. He briefly outlined different reliability techniques and talked about the concept of use of Fuzzy logic, Genetic Algorithm, and ANN for reliability of structures.
Prof Suhail Ahmad, Department of Applied Mechanics, IIT Delhi, New Delhi delivered a lecture on Applications of Reliability. He explained the importance of reliability in offshore structures with emphasis on floating platforms and Marine risers. He also deliberated upon the uncertainties in composite materials and their use in day to day life.
While delivering a lecture on Reliability and Seismic Design of Structures, Prof Manish Shrikhande, IIT Roorkee emphasized the importance of removing the uncertainties in design to make structures seismic resistant. He also deliberated upon the use probabilistic approach in seismic design.
Prof Muzzammil, convener of the workshop introduced the theme of workshop and Organizing Secretary Dr Rehan A Khan proposed the vote of thanks.
Prof Qaiser Naqvi, Dr Muzahir and Dr Rizwan A Khan were also present on the occasion.
