05-NOV-2016: The Aligarh Muslim University Vice Chancellor, Lt General Zameer Uddin Shah (Veteran) today hoisted the United Nations (UN) Flag to inaugurate the 71st UN Day Celebrations at the Department of Commerce. The event was organized by the newly established United Nations (UN) Chapter of Aligarh Muslim University.
While attending the function as the Chief Guest, General Shah said that the UN Chapter will focus on Sustainable Development Goals, Paris Agreement and Climate Change issues along with other important things.
General Shah urged students to stay alert, read widely and understand the commerce of the whole world. He also urged students to be technology savvy as the whole commerce of the world will be online.
While delivering the welcome address, Professor Nawab Ali Khan, Dean, Faculty of Commerce said that the initiative of establishing the UN Chapter in AMU will groom youngsters to excel in life. He added that this platform will bring awareness in the AMU community on important issues of sustainable energy, sustainable development, gender justice, ecology and environment, climate change, peace and justice and humanitarian issues.
Congratulating the students for successfully establishing the UN Chapter, Prof M Mohsin Khan, Chief Mentor, UN Chapter AMU said that it is important for students to be a part of sustainable development. He added that the UN Chapter in AMU will help in the overall development of students as it will help in honing skills, conducting activities and personality development.
Delivering the vote of thanks, Dr Asiya Chaudhary, Chief Co-ordinator of the programme said that establishment of the UN Chapter in AMU has come with help and cooperation of AMU administration. She specifically thanked the students associated with the UN Chapter for their hard work, which led to establishment of the Chapter.
While conducting the programme, Mr Anas Raheem, Chief Ambassador, UN Chapter AMU gave a brief introduction about the UN Chapter in AMU.
During the celebration, article writing, power point presentation and debate competitions were organized. The themes of these competitions dealt with sustainable development of the world. Around 60 students participated in these events.
On the occasion, the Vice Chancellor also released Dr Mohammad Yameen's book, 'Managerial Accounting and Financial Analysis' and Dr Asiya Chaudhary's book, 'Hometech Industry in Global Market'.
Since the establishment on September 1, 2016, the UN Chapter in AMU in AMU has already registered over 110 members. The Chapter aims to shape future leaders, who are well versed in international development and democratic systems.
