08-NOV-2016: In a recently organized 'Orientation Programme' for volunteers of 2016-17 session, Dr Abdul Hamid Fazili, Coordinator, Disability Unit, Aligarh Muslim University emphasized on the role of volunteers and the role of Disability Unit.
Speaking on the occasion Dr Fazili urged the new volunteers to join with empathy towards the disabled or differently-able students and to work selflessly for this noble cause. He requested volunteers not to join only for the sake of earning certificates.
Dr Fazili pointed out that 200 teaching and non-teaching posts in AMU have been reserved for disabled or differently-able candidates. He informed that some reserved posts have already been filled.
He further informed about transport facilities, which the Disability Unit has started for the visually and physically challenged girl students of I G Hall.
Dr Fazili thanked the AMU Administration in general and the Vice Chancellor, Lt General Zameer Uddin Shah (Veteran) in particular for bringing the Disability Unit on the University Budget.
Meanwhile, Professor Wahid, Department of Sociology delivered a thought provoking speech, exploring the problems and difficulties faced by the disabled students.
Dr Mushtaq Ahmad Zargar, Department of Modern Indian Languages spoke on the role of volunteers while Dr Abid, Department of Education gave a power point presentation on 'Adjustment and Motivation'.
The programme concluded with the screening of a documentary on the life of disabled people. Dr Bilal Ahmad Kutty proposed the vote of thanks.
