09-NOV-2016: To observe the World Diabetes Day on November 14, the Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Diabetes and Endocrinology, Aligarh Muslim University will organize a free checkup and drug distribution camp from 9 am onwards.
The camp will have free checkup for Blood Sugar, HbA1c, cholesterol, Vitamin D and other nerve, eye and skin related tests. During the camp, students of Aligarh based schools and colleges with diabetes will be provided free blood sugar measuring instruments (glucometers), school bags and stationery items.
Meanwhile, the patients and participants will be offered free counseling to generate improved awareness regarding the disease.
Dr Sheelu Shafiq Siddiqi, Director, Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Diabetes and Endocrinology informed that this year the slogan of the World Diabetes Day is 'Eyes on Diabetes'.
Quoting International Federation for Diabetes, he said that 'Diabetes can lead to eye disease which can cause blindness if not caught early'.
Dr Siddiqi pointed out that the incidence of blindness in Diabetes is on rise and the highest incidence of blindness is now attributed to diabetes mellitus, therefore the Centre has decided to include free eyes checkups in the centre.
