12-NOV-2016: The Department of Mathematics, Aligarh Muslim University today organized the inaugural function of the two-days International Conference on Algebra and its Applications in which Chairman of Einstein Foundation International Professor TM Karade participated as the Chief Guest.
Professor Karade, who is also the former Vice Chancellor of Indiana University, Raipur said that Quantum Mechanics is one of the most important characteristic on which the basic physical properties are based. He informed that Quantum mechanics relies on Algebra to a great extent for its working.
He further said that the students are part and parcel of their institution, whose future endeavors should include the values they acquired from it.
Professor KM Rangaswamy from University of Colorado, USA and the Guest of Honor on the occasion said that he is obliged to be invited at such grand event. He expressed his gratitude for the Department of Mathematics, while adding that Algebra has always been a multifaceted branch of study which has retained its relevance in almost every field since time immemorial.
Professor S Tariq Rizvi, Ohio State University, USA and an alumnus of AMU told that quality research, which is being carried on in the Department of Mathematics, AMU has always provided it the required stature. He also remembered Professor Kazim Ali, a renowned scholar of Algebra, and shared his experiences with him.
Professor Rizvi said that AMU holds an eminent position worldwide because of the caliber of research it offers. He added that the line between pure algebra and applied algebra has grown thinner over time.
Professor Abdul Munir, Dean, Faculty of Science, in his presidential address, commented that without Algebra mathematics will be reduced to a mere set of observations. He pointed out that knowledge of mathematics and algebra is helpful in almost all the fields of study including those of Science, Social Science, Arts and Commerce.
While proposing the vote of thanks, Professor M Mursaleen, Coordiantor, DRS program and Chairperson, Department of Mathematics, highlighted the achievements of the Department and thanked the AMU Vice Chancellor Lt Gen Zameeruddin Shah (Veteran) for the necessary support and guidance.
