22-NOV-2016: The Department of Psychology, Aligarh Muslim University recently concluded the National Conference on 'Spiritual Psychology in Practice' under UGC-SAP (DRS Phase-I).
While delivering the Key-note address, Professor S S Nathawat, from the Amity University, Jaipur talked about the role and importance of spirituality for essential well-being in complete physical, mental and social aspects.
He further said that spiritual health depends on 'Reciprocal' and 'Giving' aspects and 'Giving' is more important to be meaningful in life. He added that spirituality is to help others through giving and tackling the day-to-day problems.
Prof Nathawat also said that happiness and meaningfulness differ from each other as happiness is related with the present, while meaningfulness essentially depends on one's past, present and future. He further urged people to be positive, have balanced emotions and relationships with meaningful life and sense of achievement.
Delivering the Presidential address, AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt Gen Zameer Uddin Shah (Veteran) said that the mind works, when it is given strength. He added that it is imperative to know that this strength comes from belief.
"It is important to be positive in life and avoid being judgmental," said the Vice Chancellor adding that people should always try to be happy and they should also try to minimize their needs.
He also urged people to avoid anything that bring state of unhappiness in them and at the same time to be positive in all domains of life.
During a special lecture in the programme, Guest of Honour, Dr Kumkum Srivastava, Delhi University talked about how Sufism leads to realisation of truth. Dr Srivastava threw light on how Sufism enlightened inner being. She further talked about how people who visit shrines feel spiritually enlighten.
While giving the welcome address, Professor Mohd Ilyas Khan, Organizing Secretary of the programme said that he is thankful to the AMU administration in general and the Vice Chancellor in particular for necessary support in making the programme successful. Besides welcoming the guest speakers for attending the programme, Prof Ilyas also welcomed all faculties, research scholars and academicians.
Prof Akbar Husain proposed the vote of thanks. Dr Reshma Jamal conducted the programme.
Sadaf Anjum, Sara Javed and Suhail Rafiq Mir were actively involved in the successfully organization of the conference.
