23-NOV-2016: Aligarh Muslim University Vice Chancellor, Lt General Zameer Uddin Shah (Veteran) and Pro Vice Chancellor Brigadier S Ahmad Ali (Veteran) recently attended the Inaugural Function of the Department of English's Raleigh Literary Society as the Chief Guest and Guest of Honor respectively. The event took place at the University's Kennedy Hall Auditorium.
During his address at the Function, the Vice Chancellor congratulated Professor Seemin Hasan, Chairperson, Department of English, who is also the patron of the Raleigh Literary Society and the teachers-in charge Dr Aysha Munira and Dr Vibha Sharma for successfully organizing the programme. Gen Shah greatly appreciated the efforts of the actors and laid emphasis on the traditional and cultural aspects of AMU.
During the Inaugural Function, the Raleigh Literary Society presented two plays. The first play was an adaptation of 'Waiting for Godot,' a satire on the social endowment, in which the characters of Gogo and Didi along with Mr Ban and Mr Question lay bare the problems of the common man. The characters in the play accentuated how it feels when the power to speak, express, and to question is taken away.
The second play was Hayavadana, which highlights the tussle between the head and mind. The play concludes with the concept that 'completeness is individual.'
The event was introduced by Zakira Saiwa, while Anum Fatima and Sana Fatima conducted the programme. Vardha Manzar proposed the vote of thanks.
