28-NOV-2016: Mr C D Mittal, Chairman, Smt. Urmila Mittal Memorial Trust and an alumnus of the Aligarh Muslim University is one person who stands tall in saying that 'all can be done' and odds can be defied to empower women as he today distributed scholarships to 75 female students attending AMU at the Zakir Hussain College of Engineering and Technology. The criteria of selection for the award of scholarships are strictly based on genuine need of girls from economically weaker section of society who otherwise would not be able to pursue their education for the lack of money.
"If we make honest commitments, everything to empower women can be done easily. We just need sincere efforts for women education," said Mr Mittal adding that he wants to spend his money in the right direction of providing education to girls, in need of financial support. Mr Mittal has so far provided scholarships worth almost 41 lakh Rupees to girls from the economically weaker sections.
While awarding the scholarships, Mr Mittal said that his mother is the inspiration behind these scholarships. "I was born in a family with limited means and while I was growing up, my mother use to urge me to become big in life to help the needy people," he said.
Mr Mittal added that awarding scholarships to female students in AMU is his way of paying back to his alma mater. "I did BA and LLB from AMU and I am at this position because I was lucky enough to attend this great centre of learning and now it is my time to pay back, he further said.
Mr Mittal also urged the recipients of the scholarships to make excellent careers and contribute to society in the best possible ways.
He also said that the AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt General Zameer Uddin Shah (Veteran) is an inspiration too as he working tirelessly for the cause of education and fulfilling the dreams of AMU founder Sir Syed Ahmad Khan.
Meanwhile, thanking Mr Mittal for the generosity, AMU Vice Chancellor, General Shah said Mr Mittal's work is unmatched. He also informed that Mr Mittal has also promised to provide scholarships for girl students, who qualify the MBBS and Engineering entrance examinations.
General Shah added that in return for the scholarships, Mr Mittal only wants AMU girl students to work hard in achieving their goals.
He also said that Mr Mittal offers to show our girls students the right directions and it is imperative for students to have courage to make big in life.
While concluding his address, General Shah also urged girl students in particular and all the students in general to work hard in doing researches and bringing AMU to number one rank in Indian universities in 2017.
During the programme students availing Smt. Urmila Mittal Memorial Trust scholarships also spoke on how financial burdens on their families have been reduced.
Scholarships ranging from Rs 1, 500 to over 3, 000 Rs per month were awarded to 75 girl students from various departments and faculties of the University.
Professor M D Sagheer Khan delivered the welcome address and also conducted the programme. Dr Tufail Ahmad proposed the vote of thanks. Prof Jamshed Siddiqui, DSW, AMU was also present on the occasion.
