17-DEC-2016: The Department of Physiology, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), AMU today organised the CME cum Workshop on 'Environmental Stresses on Autonomic and Cardiorespiratory Functions' at the JNMC Auditorium. The CME was inaugurated by AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt General Zameer Uddin Shah (Veteran).
On the occasion, the Chief Guest, Professor Dr Ajay Kumar Singh, Director, Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences (INMAS) Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) said that people in today's world live in various kinds of stresses due to their life styles, work pressures and family lives.
Talking about Physiological Environmental Stress, Prof Tripathi said that since this stress is particularly seen in high latitude cold areas, deserts and dry areas; it is imperative to work on physiological changes.
Professor Rajiv Gulati, Organising Secretary of the programme and Chairperson, Department of Physiology pointed out that with the Industrial Revolution, increasing human expeditions to non-inhabitable lands like mountains, seas, oceans and deserts among other things has put people under huge stress. He added that this stress is mainly due to pollution, climatic changes and radiation exposure.
He also pointed out that it is the duty of medical professionals to understand intricate interactions and health hazards minutely so that it becomes easy to find ways to help the mankind.
Professor M Amanullah Khan, Dean, Faculty of Medicine emphasised that diabetes, cancer and blood pressure happen mainly due to stress therefore we will have to use the simplest methods of de-stressing ourselves. He further said that this CME is a platform to gain knowledge on ways to de-stress ourselves.
Speaking on Environmental Stress, Prof Tariq Mansoor, Principal, JNMC said that it is very important to have a congenial environment to avoid unnecessary stresses, we go through in our lives.
Prof K K Gupta, Head, Department of Physiology, All India Institute of Medical Sciences and Col Anuj Chawla, Head, Department of Physiology, Armed Forces Medical College, Pune also spoke on the occasion.
Prof D K Agarwal proposed the vote of thanks and Dr Shariq Aqeel conducted the programme.
