Aligarh, March 9: A team of surgeons associated with the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University recently removed a giant tumour from the chest of an 18-year-old, Mr Rahul, who was admitted after suffering chronic cough and difficulty in breathing.
The patient, who is now been discharged after the successful surgery, was earlier refused by many hospitals due to the complex nature of surgery.
The team of surgeons, who operated the patient, was headed by Professor M H Beg. The team also had Dr Mohd Azam Haseen and Dr Ehtesham Hussain Naqvi while Dr Nadeem Raza provided the anaesthesia.
Prof Beg confirmed that the patient had a 1.25 kg tumor adhered to his heart, great vessels and left lung. He further informed that before reaching the JNMC, the patient was unable to get the operation done due to financial constraints and complicated nature of the required surgery. The patient?s father, Mr Rajpal is a farmer.
?So far, more than 400 surgeries have been done to such patients in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery,? said Prof Beg.
