Dept of Linguistics inaugurates two-day National Conference on ?Applied Linguistics?
Aligarh, March 18: The Department of Linguistics, Aligarh Muslim University today inaugurated a two-day National Conference on ?Applied Linguistics (Language Teaching)?, which was attended by AMU Pro Vice Chancellor, Brigadier S Ahmad Ali (Veteran) as the Chief Guest, while Professor Farhatullah Khan (Prof Emeritus) presided over the function.
Guest of Honor, Prof Ravinder Gargesh; Senior Teacher, Prof S Imtiaz Hasnain and the Prof Ali R Fatihi, Chairperson, Department of Linguistics were also present on the occasion.
The program started with a note on the establishment of the Aligarh Muslim University and the vision of our founder Sir Syed Ahmad Khan.
Later a brief introduction of the Department of Linguistics and its constant state of activity in organizing conferences, celebrating events, conducting competitions, and enacting skits was done.
Prof AR Fatihi delivered the welcome address, while Brigadier Ali released the book of abstracts and declared the conference open.
Guest of Honour, Prof Ravinder Gargesh, Department of Linguistics, Delhi University who is also now a visiting Professor at AMU made threw light on the actual meaning of Applied Linguistics. He also enlightened students about the development of Applied Linguistics in India as well as the sociological perspective of Language Teaching.
Prof S Imtiaz Hasnain urged students to work and achieve heights in future.
During the conclusion, Prof Farhatullah Khan?s delivered the presidential address, in which he spoke on his prolific experiences of teaching and travelling.
Mr Bairam Khan, Assistant Professor with the Department of Linguistics delivered the vote of thanks while Ms M S Sana conducted the programme.
