Prof Kidwai appointed as Director, K A Nizami Centre for Quranic Studies
Aligarh, March 20: Professor Abdur Raheem Kidwai has recently been appointed as the Director of K A Nizami Centre for Quranic Studies, Aligarh Muslim University.
Prof kidwai, who has been associated with the Aligarh Muslim University?s Department of English and UGC HRD Centre has contributed extensively over the years to Quranic Studies.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia had commissioned Prof Kidwai to compile a highly useful reference work, Bibliography of the English translations of the Quran 1649-2002: A Critical Study. English and Arabic editions of this substantial work came out in 2007. Equally significant is his other frequently cited work, ?Translating the Untranslatable: A Critical Guide to 60 English Translation of the Quran.? His several works on the Quran and Islam have been brought out by Jaico, Mumbai; Viva, New Delhi and Kube, Leicester, UK.
Professor Kidwai?s English translation of the Quran, ?What is in the Quran: Message of the Quran in Simple English? has been read with much profit by those new to the Quran. It expounds the meaning and message of the Quran in easy to understand English.
He has published more than 200 articles and reviews on the Quranic Studies in prestigious journals all over the world. His series of four books Daily Wisdom and 365 Sayings of the Quran have also gone a long way in familiarizing readers with the life giving teachings of the Quran. In view of his vast administrative acumen Prof Kidwai is likely to take the Quran Centre to the new heights of academic excellence.
