AMU?s Library science teacher presents talk on open access
ALIGARH March 20: Dr. Muzammil Mushtaq, Assistant Professor, Department of Library and Information Science, Aligarh Muslim University delivered a lecture on ?Building Digital Library using Greenstone Digital Library Software (GSDL)? at the two-day National Workshop on ?Open Access Platforms in Research? organized by DLIS, University of Kashmir.
In his lecture, Dr. Muzamil stated that the open access is the openness of the minds and keeping the scholarly communication hidden under the barriers of cost and subscription is against the essence of scholarship. Scholarly literature is supposed to be open to all for assessment and evaluation to get the insights of the research.
?Scalability, Sharing, Richness of the content, Open to Praise and Criticism, Mutual Benefit, Cooperation, Increase in Readership, Audience, Citations, Innovation, Academic Rewards, Professional Recognition, etc. are some of the benefits of open access and open content?, said Dr. Muzamil.
He gave a practical demonstration how to building a digital library with the help of Greenstone Digital Library Software and showcased some of the digital library projects initiated by GSDL in India and elsewhere.
Senior Library Science Professionals from all over the country attended the workshop.
