AMU Professor delivers keynote address
ALIGARH March 20: Prof. H.S.A. Yahya, former Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, Aligarh Muslim University presented a keynote address on Ecological Services for Maintaining Forest Ecosystems with Special References to Ecology and Conservation of Barbets (Megalaima spp) at the International Congress organized by Indian Biodiversity Congress at Pondicherry.
In his lecture, Prof. Yahya illustrated the importance of conservation of avian diversity and emphasized on opening more research institutions in the country to train young generations for conservation of wildlife and biodiversity of the country. He also presided over a session at the conference, which was attended by 475 delegates from 34 states and from countries like Nepal, Srilanka, Bangladesh and Malaysia.
Prof. Yahya also attended the National Conference on ?Bio-degradation of Wildlife, Environment and Biodiversity?, which was organized by the Department of Zoology, Gandhi Faiz-e-Aam College, Shahjahanpur. He delivered an invited lecture on ?Retrospect and Prospect of Biodiversity Conservation in India with Special Reference to Birds?. He illustrated the richness of Indian biodiversity, its distribution, importance and the concurrent threats and recommended ways to deal with the crisis of biodiversity loss and conservation issues.
He also talked about the different taxa of threatened plants, mammals, reptiles and birds in depth while presenting an assessment.
