Dept of Psychology starts workshop on ?Data Analytics using SPSS?
Aligarh, March 23: The Department of Psychology recently began a workshop on ?Data Analytics using SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences)? as a part of an initiative to expand research training for junior investigators engaged in academic research. The workshop will end on March 26, 2017.
Delivering the keynote address, Professor Mohd Ilyas Khan, Chairperson, Department of Psychology said that data analysis is not a decision making system, but a decision supporting system and this program will fill the gap. He added, ?application of statistical software for data analysis is indispensable for any research scholar who is doing quantitative research.?
Prof Ilyas also pointed out that it is a common observation that many social science research scholars perceive research methodology and statistics as a complex matter and this program will fill the gap.
While inaugurating the programme, Prof Shamim Ahmad Ansari, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences pointed out that merely analyzing data isn't sufficient from the point of view of making a decision. ?How does one interpret from the analyzed data is more important,? added Prof Ansari.
Dr Shah Mohd. Khan, Associate Professor, Department of Psychology said that the computer based data processing and analysis will be the central feature of the workshop. He added that SPSS has been consciously chosen as it is user-friendly and appropriate for data analysis.
Meanwhile, Prof Akbar Husain, discussed the need for number of similar workshops for enriching the quality of research.
