National seminar held on academic publications and citations
ALIGARH March 24: Maulana Azad Library and the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Aligarh Muslim University jointly organized a Seminar-cum-Interactive Session on "Academic Publications and Citations: The Changing Paradigm" at the Cultural Hall of the Library.
Dr. Usha Munshi, Keynote Speaker of the event and a renowned expert in the domain from Indian Institute of Public Administration said that publications and citations are the major indicators of quality in higher education today, besides projects, collaborations, consultancy, placement and others activities.
She said that accreditation and ranking by various national and international agencies have proved that the Aligarh Muslim University occupies third position amongst Indian universities which is also upheld by both Web of Science and Indian Citation Index. Needless to say, Web of Science and SCOPUS are considered the most reliable sources on publication data in the world.
In SCOPUS, we have published about 2840 research papers during 2013-16, which is quite a high and respectable number.
The seminar further discussed the ways and means to improve publications and citations both at national and international levels, which as a consequence will help increase ranking, repute and perception about the AMU.
Dr. Nabi Hasan, University Librarian informed that a number of talks were delivered by experts including Dr Usha Munshi, IIPA, Dr. Narender Kumar, Indian Citation Index, New Delhi, Dr D S Faruiqi, UK, Prof Rizwan Khan, Dr Nabi Hasan etc. An open interactive session was also organized on this occasion.
AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt Gen Zameer Uddin Shah, Pro-Vice Chancellor Brig S. Ahmad Ali, Deans, Principals, Directors, Head of Departments, faculty members, research scholars were present on the occasion.
