24-APR-2017: AMU establishes Centre of STEM-ER in consonance with Ohio State University
Aligarh, April 24: The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has established a Centre of Excellence in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics - Education and Research (STEM-ER) in consonance with the Ohio State University (OSU), US, under the ambitious Indo-US 21st Century Knowledge Initiative, earlier known as Obama-Singh Knowledge Initiative and supported by the US-Indo Education Foundation (USIEF). The STEM-ER project aims at training graduate students to become the world class teachers and researchers at the University level.
This Centre will provide sustenance to the Pilot Project, jointly started under the OSU-AMU partnership, which has developed a novel and unique Dual Degree programme, with a graduate degree from AMU and a newly designed two-year masters of education degree with STEM specialization from OSU.
Meanwhile, AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt General Zameer Uddin (Veteran) has formalized the governing structure of Indo-US Centre for STEM Education and Research in accordance with the OSU-AMU MOA signed in November 2013, comprising of AMU Advisory Council with Vice-Chancellor, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Registrar and Directors (All Chairmen of the Departments concerned with STEM Programme) as members.
The Governing Board of Indo-US Centre at AMU includes AMU Director, Prof Tauheed Ahmad, Department of Physics; AMU Co-Director and Prof Farukh Arjmand, Department of Chemistry. While Prof Nesar Ahmad, Department of Computer Engineering; Prof Jamal Ahmad, O S D (Development); Prof Rizwan Khan, Interdisciplinary Biotechnology Unit; Prof Absar Ahmad, Director, Interdisciplinary Nanotechnology Centre; Prof Rashid Shaz, Director (CEPECAMI) and Prof Rahimullah Khan (retired) Department of Physics are the other important members.
The OSU Governing Board includes OSU Director, Prof Anil K Pradhan; OSU Co-Directror, Prof Sultana Nahar and OSU Co-Director, Prof Karen Irving. The board also has Prof Christopher Carey, Prof Altaf Wani, Prof Syed Rizvi, Dr Asim Rizvi, Dr Hala Noman, Mr Malik Azeem, Ms Nida Rehmani, Mr Parvez Alam, Ms Sabiha Parveen, Mr Taqseer Khan and Ms Swaleha Naseem as members.
