AMUSU soon to set record with 50, 000 tree sapling plantations with ?One Person, One Tree? drive
Aligarh, April 25: As a part of the ?Earth Day? observations, the Aligarh Muslim University Students Union (AMUSU) is set to create a record of planting 50, 000 tree saplings in the lawns of various Faculties, departments, schools, offices and halls of residences associated with the University. Once it reaches the target, AMUSU?s plantation drive, ?One Person, One Tree? will be biggest tree plantation drive carried out by an educational institution in India.
AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt General Zameer Uddin Shah (Veteran), who inaugurated the plantation drive, today morning around 8:00 am at the Maulana Azad Library lawns congratulated AMUSU for the initiative. On the occasion, he said that the benefits of trees are unlimited as they are the strongest shield against the harms of air pollution, while strengthening the soil and resisting natural calamities and lessening the heat of temperature. General Shah inaugurated the plantation drive with his wife, Mrs Sabiha Seemi Shah.
AMU Pro Vice Chancellor, Brigadier S Ahmad Ali (Veteran), who also congratulated the AMUSU for the plantation drive said that plantation drives are very important social sensitization projects and it is wonderful to see that such drive is carried out in AMU at a very large scale.
AMU Public Relations Officer, Mr Omar S Peerzada, who along with the Public Relations Office Team planted 20 tree saplings in the varsity?s Registrar Office premises as a part of the plantation drive, said that ?everyday should be observed as the Earth Day.? He quoted the Japanese Nobel Laureate, Prof Tajaki Kajita, who on his AMU Visit said, ?AMU is one of the greenest and cleanest universities, he has ever seen.? Congratulating the AMUSU for their efforts, he stated that let us make AMU greener and cleaner.
Meanwhile various schools associated with AMU also actively participated in the planataion drive, in partuclarly the AMU ABK High School (Girls) conducted the plantation programme, in which students planted saplings in the schools premises. Dr Saba Hasan, School Principal confirmed that the students have enthusaitically participated in the ?One Person, One Tree? campaign.
Professor Suhail Sabir, Director, Alumni Affairs Committee; Dr Nabi Hasan, University Librarian with other library employees; Noted journalist associated with PTI, Mr Tariq Hasan; Mr Santosh Sharma of Dainik Jagran; Mr Kamran of Rashtiya Sahara; AMUSU President, Mr Faizul Hasan; AMUSU Vice President, Mr Nadeem Ansari; AMUSU Secretary, Mr Nabeel Usmani; AMUSU Cabinet Member, Mr Vaseel K and other AMUSU Cabinet Members were present on the occasion. This plantation drive, which has been spearheaded by Mr Vaseel K is targeted to reach a rare feat of a number of sapling plantations, never ever attempted by any other academic institution.
