26-APR-2017: Kennedy Hall, AMU stages ?Aseer e Hirs?
Aligarh, April 26: The play ?Aseer e Hirs? was recently staged at the Kennedy Hall in Aligarh Muslim University. Written by famous playwright Mr Agha Hashr Kashmiri, the play was directed by Mr Mohd Nadeem Khan and organised by the Department of Urdu, Aligarh Muslim University in collaboration with Dream Weavers Theatre Academy.
With Nadeem Khan as Changez and Arsh Iqbal as Naushaba; the play showed Chengez?s insurmountable lust for power because of which he murdered his own cousins. The actors did well to bring many subthemes such as a celebration of romantic love, princely honour and valour in the play.
This play?s wit, repartee, cultural warmth, elements of humour, tragicomedy, clowns and characterisation express a strongly Shakespearean aura. The play opens in a setting of a palace with the stage for conflict between Chengez and his queen Naushaba, who supports humaneness and justice, while Chengez is overpowered by greed and ambition.
All in all, the play was entertaining with good direction, acting, costumes and music. The tragic element caused by Chengez?s cruelty, makes him the villain everybody wants to see punished. The humour brings out a lot of laughter ? the acting specially commendable. The play will be remembered for its modern adaptation innovative direction.
The performance also had Waseem Khan as Nasir, Saba Fatima as Mehjabin , Faraz as Rustam, Deepak Yadav as Saleem, Rubaid as Himaqat Baig, Hamzah as Jhanjhat, Hifzur Rehman, Faiz Salman, Danish, Rajni, Aqsa, Samra, Samina, Shabnam, Bhawna , Saqiba, Himanshu and Taha.
