Aligarh, April 29: Former Director, Sir Syed Academy, Aligarh Muslim University, Professor Shan Mohammad?s edited book ?Sir Syed Ahmad Khan Memorial Lectures? published by Viva, New Delhi has been recently released.
The book has chapters on topics like National-integration, Secularism, Aligarh Movement, University Education for National Development, Oneness of all Religions, and Sir Syed and His Relevance to the Present Day among other topics written by Dr Tara Chand, Professor H K Sherwani, Professor Rasheed Ahmad Siddiqui, Niharranjan Ray, Professor R C Mehrotra, Mr Syed Muzaffar Hussain Burni, Dr B N Pande, Justice Jagmohan Reddy, Dr Rafiq Zakaria, Mr Kuldeep Nayyar, Dr Abid Hussain, Mr Syed Hamid, Mr Siddharth Shankar Ray, Mr Shyam Benegal, Mr S R Faruqi, Mr M J Akbar, Mr Wajahat Habibullah, Professor Gordon Campbell, Dr Ramchandra Guha and Mr Rajen Habib Khwaja.
The book has essays, which have detailed researches on how Sir Syed Ahmad Khan came at the forefront after the ascendency of the British in India. These essays evaluate the causes of the 1857 Mutiny and how Sir Syed decided to take a stand and to fight for rights and how he was able to open the M.A.O. College in 1877, which became the Aligarh Muslim University in 1920.
After completing M A in History and Political Science from the Christ Church College, Kanpur; Professor Shan Mohammad went on to do D Phil and D Litt from Allahabad and Aligarh Muslim University respectively. He specialises in The Aligarh Movement and Muslim Politics in India (1857- 1947).
