Prof Beg and his team successfully conduct complex cardiac surgery
Aligarh, May 3: A team of cardiac surgeons led by Professor M H Beg, Chairperson, Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University have successfully conducted a complex cardiac surgery on a 44-year-old woman, who was diagnosed with severe mitral stenosis and was advised mitral valve replacement. The patient was operated with a mechanical valve placed inside her heart.
The team led by Professor Beg included Dr Mohd Azam Haseen and Dr Ehtesham Hussain Naqvi, while Dr Nadeem Raza and his team provided anaesthesia to the patient before the surgery.
While saying that it was technically a very challenging and complicated surgery; Prof Beg informed that the patient?s heart was stuck to her chest bones and it took six hours for the team to complete the surgery.
Professor Beg added that the patient?s heart and lungs were stopped for replacing a valve and she was supported on a heart-lung machine by a team of perfusionists consisting of Mr Sabir Ali Khan and Mr Anwer Rizvi. ?The surgery was also assisted by Mr Noorul Ahad, Mr Salman and Mr Haider,? he added.
The team of surgeons also informed that the patient had earlier consulted with doctors at the SGPGI Lucknow and several other centres before reaching JNMC.
Professor M A Khan, Dean Faculty of Medicine and Professor Tariq Mansoor, Principal and CMS JNMC has congratulated the teams involved in the surgery.
Meanwhile, the patient?s husband, Mr Raj Bahadur Singh has thanked the doctors, nurses and paramedical staff for the care given to his wife during her stay at JNMC.
