11-MAY-2017: Lt Gen Shah inaugurates renovated Public Relations Office
Aligarh, May 11: Aligarh Muslim University Vice Chancellor, Lt General Zameer Uddin Shah (Veteran) today inaugurated the renovated building of Varsity?s Public Relations Office in the presence of Professor Shah Muhammad, Professor A R Kidwai, Professor Shafey Kidwai, Professor M Ilyas Khan, Professor Rizwan Khan, Dr Rahat Abrar and other dignitaries and academicians of the University.
Soon after the ribbon cutting to mark the inaugural of the building, AMU Public Relations Officer, Mr Omar S Peerzada accompanied the Vice Chancellor to show him the interiors of the building.
On the occasion, General said that there was a need to have a renovated state-of-art office for the University?s Public Relations team. While congratulating the engineers, architects and other workers involved in the renovation, General Shah said: ?The work done in the building is remarkable.?
During his address, General Shah also pointed out that AMU is one of the greenest and cleanest universities in India and even the Prime Minister of India, Mr Narendra Modi in a recent meeting has agreed to it.
He added that AMU has taken up fresh scientific research projects, including on how to solve the water crisis using nanotechnology and recycle waste water using eco-friendly and low-cost methods.
While adding that AMU is doing extra-ordinary work in researches; General Shah said that we need to encourage good quality research in applied sciences as well as the social sciences and we are doing that.
?The university has taken up a project on desalinating sea water or brackish water using nanotechnology that would bring a ?sea change in India? and provide low-cost drinking water.
Addressing the media gathering on the occasion, General Shah said that AMU is thankful to the media for doing positive stories. He urged AMU PRO, Mr Peerzada to maintain the best of media relations.
Professor Shan Muhammad, who presented his new released edited book, ?Sir Syed Ahmad Khan Memorial Lectures? to the Public Relations Office pointed out that in General Shah?s tenure, the best of academic activities have taken place and the best of infrastructure has come up. He added that the generations of students and academicians to come in AMU will remember General Shah as one of the best administrators AMU has ever seen.
Professor A R Kidwai, Director, UGC HRD Centre, AMU appreciated the efforts of Public Relations Office in bringing mainstream media editors and foreign dignitaries for seminars and conferences in Aligarh. He added that Mr Peerzada and his team has been working day and night to improve AMU?s perceptions.
Prof Kidwai also pointed out that among the many recommendable works of the Public Relations Office has been to involve students in projects in the image building exercises. He also congratulated Mr Peerzada and his team for the conclusion of the Public Relations Office?s renovation project.
Earlier in the welcome address, Mr Peerzada said that the University?s PRO Team has been working very hard to improve perceptions of the university. ?With the kind of guidance and cooperation, we have received from the administration, the Public Relations team will be able to reach new heights,? said Mr Peerzada.
Recollecting his first few days in the Public Relations Office, Mr Peerzada said: ?The Vice Chancellor on his visit to the office, after I joined as the PRO promised me to get the office renovated.? We are given Rs 15 lakhs for the renovation and Rs two lakhs more for the air conditioners,? said Mr Peerzada adding that the renovation has turned the Public Relations Office building into a state-of-art office and it has only been possible because of General Shah?s commitment and determination. Mr Peerzada also proposed the vote of thanks in the conclusion of the programme.
The Vice Chancellor also released AMU Scholar, Mr Asad Faisal Farouqui?s book, ?Aligarh Ki Urdu Sahafat? (Urdu Journalism in Aligarh) and the latest issue of University?s Gazette.
