Maulana Azad Library bids farewell to General Shah and Brigadier Ali
Aligarh, May 13: The Maulana Azad Library, Aligarh Muslim University today organised a farewell ceremony to AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt General Zameer Uddin Shah (Veteran) and AMU Pro Vice Chancellor, Brigadier S Ahmad Ali at the Library?s Cultural Hall.
Speaking on the occasion, the Vice Chancellor pointed out that he is overwhelmed with the farewells happening in the University and these moments will always be a special part of his memory. ?I have always believed that when you plant trees, generations to come will enjoy the shades,? said General Shah adding that we have done our bit and it is now time for the new administration, students, teachers and the non-teaching staff to reap the benefits.
During my tenure as the Vice Chancellor, it was always a wonderful feeling to visit the library and to see all the seats occupied by students. ?AMU?s Library has a big contribution in the success story of the university,? further said General Shah.
?I must congratulate the University Librarian, Dr Nabi Hasan and his team for working very hard in maintaining the library and to ensure the storing of Maulana Azad?s personal collection for display in the Library?s museum in a very short span of time,? said Gen Shah.
He further said, ?I pray that the treasure of books in the library and artefacts in library?s museum remain safely preserved and keep on increasing in the days to come for the benefit of the future generations.?
AMU Pro Vice Chancellor, Brigadier S Ahmad Ali (Veteran) said that when he looks back at the last five years in the University and they way farewells are been organised by different departments, faculties and offices; he gets assurance that the Vice Chancellor?s work and his work has been recognised. ?Your love is an assurance for the recognition of our efforts,? he added.
Brigadier Ali further said that the love and affection shown to him and Vice Chancellor through these farewells is something, he will remember all his life. ?Words are not enough to explain, what I am feeling,? said Brigadier Ali.
?In the past five years, with the hard work of the library staff, Maulana Azad Library has become the first choice for organising important university functions and seminars,? said Brigadier Ali adding that the credit goes to the library staff as with their dedication, the administration had to fulfil all their demands.
Meanwhile, Professor Javaid Akhtar, AMU Registrar said that there are countless things, we have learnt from the Vice Chancellor and the Pro Vie Chancellor. ?They taught us how to handle the most complex administrative problems and I can say that their absence will terribly be felt,? he added.
Professor A R Kidwai, who was also present on the occasion said that few of the numerous achievements of the Vice Chancellor and the Pro Vice Chancellor is that almost all the departments and offices have been renovated and of course the research and other academic standards of the university have reached new heights.
While delivering the welcome address, Dr Nabi Hasan spoke on the academic progress and infrastructural developments in the university during the tenure of General Shah and Brigadier Ali. He added that the Vice Chancellor and the Pro Vice Chancellor gave us all the freedom and free hand to hold workshops, seminars and conferences and the results have been wonderful.
The Vice Chancellor and the Pro Vice Chancellor also released a special collection of two volumes complied in a book by Sir Syed Bicentenary Committee. The book is titled ?Sir Syed and Aligarh Movement? and the release was facilitated by Dr Shaista Bedaar.
Dr Hafiz Ali Siddiqui proposed the vote of thanks, while Dr Athar Khursheed conducted the programme.
Academicians and students from various departments and faculties attended the farewell ceremony.
