29-SEP-2017: 78-year-old discharged after successful Bypass surgery
Aligarh, September 29: A team of Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC) cardiothoracic surgeons have successfully carried out a bypass surgery on a 78 year-old-man, who was admitted after complaining of severe chest pain.
The patient, Kafeel Ahmad, a resident of the Jamalpur area in Aligarh underwent a five-hour surgery after an angiography suggesting blockage in blood vessels of heart. During the procedure, blood vessels from the patient's legs were used to replace the blocked heart blood vessels. Ahmad has now been discharged after recovery.
Prof M H Beg (Chairperson, Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery) led the surgery with the help of Dr Mohd Azam Haseen, Dr Ehtesham Hussain Naqvi, Dr Shamayal Rabbani and Dr Mamoon Karimi, while Dr Nadeem Raza and Dr Kashif Jamal provided anaesthesia to the patient.
After the surgery, Prof Beg said, "it is a proud moment for JNMC." He informed that Ahmad was the oldest patient so far to undergo the procedure at JNMC.
Dr Mohd Azam Haseen (Associate Professor, Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery) also informed that the success of this surgery was unique as it was done on beating heart.
"Beating heart CABG is very challenging and only a few centres in Uttar Pradesh are doing it," said Dr Sayyed Ehtesham Hussain Naqvi.
Prof M A Khan (Dean, Faculty of Medicine and Principal JNMC) has congratulated the team of surgeons for the success.
