06-OCT-2017: Lecture on 'Livestock, Livelihood and Sustainable Development of Farmers'
Aligarh, October 6: Professor Nizamuddin Khan (Department of Geography, Aligarh Muslim University?AMU) delivered a lecture on 'Livestock, Livelihood and Sustainable Development of Farmers' at the 'XII International Geography Conference on Environmental Changes in South and South East Asia: Challenges and Prospects' in Raipur. The conference was organised by the Deccan Geographical Society.
Delineating on the topic, Prof Khan highlighted the role of livestock husbandry in improving Indian farmer's economic status with diversification of farming systems.
He pointed out that dairy farming, goat rearing and poultry are new promising sub agriculture sectors for enriching the small and marginal farmers.
Talking about the increasing urban population and enhancement in demand of livestock derived products such as milk and meat, Prof Khan suggested changes in livestock marketing in the interests of poor farmers.
Prof Khan stressed on positive roles of livestock husbandry for sustainable development of agriculture.
Prof Khan has completed seven major research projects and has nine books and 90 research papers to his credit. He is also the course coordinator in Interdisciplinary Department of Remote Sensing and GIS Applications in AMU, Aligarh.
