07-OCT-2017: Conference on 'Sports, Exercise and Health Sciences (NCSEHS)?2017' held in AMU
Aligarh, October 7: Mr Rajeev Shukla (Member of Parliament, Chairperson of Indian Premier League?IPL and Secretary of Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association) today attended the national conference on ?Sports, Exercise and Health Sciences (NCSEHS)?2017? at the varsity?s Kennedy Hall Auditorium as the Chief Guest. The Conference was organised by the Sir Syed Bicentenary Celebrations Committee and the Department of Physical Education, AMU.
Mr Shukla began his address by paying rich tributes to AMU founder Sir Syed Ahmad Khan. "The nation can achieve true progress by pursuing the educational strategy proposed by Sir Syed," said Mr Shukla.
He added that health and fitness is the key to a long, active and enjoyable life. "It is correctly stated that health is the actual wealth that a person can retain and one should remember that a healthy mind resides only in a healthy body," said Mr Shukla adding that good health of both mind and body helps one maintain the required energy level to achieve success in life.
Mr Shukla pointed out that Yoga started in ancient India, but the west follows it more than us because modern science is validating the benefits of yoga. He urged the youngsters to lead a healthy life by obliterating their muscles and not by just simply walking for 30 to 35 minutes a day. ?Walking is a basic exercise and no doubt it is good for health but younger people should push themselves for more exercises," he said.
Mr Shukla further said that AMU continues to impress everyone in India and abroad. ?I have met so many successful doctors, engineers and other professionals in US, Canada and European countries who have graduated from AMU,? said Mr Shukla. He also inaugurated the Mohd. Shahid Memorial Cricket Tournament at the varsity's Willingdon Cricket Pavilion. The tournament is organised to mark the Sir Syed Ahmad Khan's Bicentenary Celebrations by the Cricket Club (Games Committee, AMU). Mr Shukla inaugurated the event with AMU Vice Chancellor, Professor Tariq Mansoor.
While delivering the presidential address, AMU Vice Chancellor, Professor Mansoor thanked Mr Shukla on behalf of the University for finding time to attend the conference.
Prof Mansoor said that India needs to develop a culture of fitness like US, Japan and other countries. "We need to have a more gyms, wellness centres and health clubs," said the Vice Chancellor. He urged students to find time for participating in outdoor activities and sports.
Prof Mansoor pointed out that the ongoing FIFA Under-17 World Cup in India will boost the interest of football among youngsters which will eventually lead to more healthy life styles at young ages. "I have hopes that people realise the importance of an event like the FIFA Under-17 World Cup and how it is going to benefit Indian sports," said the Vice Chancellor.
The special guest, Mr Vivek Bansal (AMU Alumnus and Secretary, All India Congress Committee) said that there are great expectations from AMU students, whom he sees as the future of India. "AMU has a bright future in its students and I am sure they will also shine in sports with academic achievements," said Mr Bansal.
Dr Ayazuddin Hashmi (Vice President, Hashmi Group of Education, Amroha) said that he is honoured to be part of this conference and looks forward to more such visits.
Prof M L Kamlesh (Retd Principal Sport Authority of India) was also present on the occasion. He delivered a keynote address in one of the sessions after the inaugural function of the conference.
Dr M Arshad Bari (Director of the conference) discussed the challenges of being physically fit in the 21st century and how to handle health related issues.
Prof Brij Bhushan Singh delivered the welcome address, while Dr Merajuddin Faridi (Chief Organising Secretary of the conference) conducted the programme. Dr Khurram Nisar proposed the vote of thanks. The Vice Chancellor and the chief guest also released the journal of the conference during the inaugural function.
