13-OCT-2017: ICMR confers AMU Associate Professor with 'Shankuntala Amirchand Award'
Aligarh, October 13: Dr Riaz Ahmad, an Associate Professor in the Genetics Section of Department of Zoology, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) who has been contributing immensely in the field of biomedical research has now been recognised for his promise, creativity and excellence. He has been conferred with the 'Shankuntala Amirchand Award' for the year 2015 by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) at National Academy of Medical Sciences, New Delhi.
He received a memento, a cash prize of Rs 10, 000 and a citation for his exemplary work on 'Liver Fibrosis and the Discovery of Novel Diagnostic Biomarkers? from Smt. Anupriya Patel (Union Minister of State for health and Family Welfare), Dr V K Paul (Member NITI Aayog, New Delhi), Dr Saumya Swaminathan (DG, ICMR), Prof Vijay Raghavan (Secretary, DBT) and Shri Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha (Special Secretary, Ministry of Ayush).
A thrilled Dr Ahmad said, "It feels great when your work is recognised at the national level." He added that after all the efforts he has put in area of biomedical sciences and clinical research; he is humbled to be recognised with other scientists doing cutting-edge research in the country.
Dr Ahmad's work on Liver Fibrosis and Novel Diagnostic Biomarkers also explains the role of Resveratrol, an active ingredient of many fruits in regressing dynamic condition.
