14-OCT-2017: Career counseling workshop held in Civil Engineering
ALIGARH October 14: The Department of Civil Engineering, Z H College of Engineering and Technology, Aligarh Muslim University organized a "Career Counseling Workshop" under Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP-III) for 2nd year Civil Engineering students.
Welcoming the guests, Prof. Mohammed Muzammil, Chairperson of the department, discussed the importance of career planning. He said that relevant information at right time proved a catalyst for the students in choosing appropriate career. He said that career choices helped students in making smart decisions. The main objective of a career guidance workshop is to make them aware of their strengths and weaknesses, he added.
Prof Muzammil said that one mentor (teacher) has been provided to a group of two students so that they could share their problems with him and discuss solutions for their academic development. The mentor assigned in second year of B. Tech will continue for the whole course, he clarified.
Prof. Javed Alam, Member, Career Counseling Cell (CCC) informed about the objectives of the cell and highlighted the significance of holding counseling workshops. He urged the students to make good use of the workshop and involve themselves in motivating and inspiring their fellow students. He stressed the need to be good human along with a good Civil Engineer and develop the "Aligarian" spirit in them.
Dr Rizwan A Khan, another member of the cell, presented a power point presentation covering various educational aspects like importance of education, need to study, choosing the right career track and the motivation for hard work.
Dr Khan said that civil engineering is the oldest branch which incorporates the design and construction of roads, airports, tunnels, bridges, water supply, sewage systems, dams, harbours, railroad systems, docks, power supply systems, buildings and even nuclear power plants. He said that it was a fast changing stream and students need to keep up with these changes.
Dr Rizwan A Khan conducted the workshop while Dr Farrukh Basheer, who is also a member of the cell, proposed the vote of thanks. Senior faculty members, including Dr Sarfraz Ansari and students were present.
