14-OCT-2017: 'Exhibition of Manuscripts, Documents, Coins and Archaeological materials' inaugurated at the Centre of Advanced Studies
Aligarh, October 14: Eminent historian of ancient and medieval India, Professor Irfan Habib (Emeritus Prof) today inaugurated the 'Exhibition of Manuscripts, Documents, Coins and Archaeological materials' at the Audio Visual Room, Centre of Advanced Studies, Department of History, Aligarh Muslim University.
The exhibition, which started today, will conclude on October 17, 2017. It is being organised to mark the bicentenary celebrations of AMU founder, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan.
During the inaugural, Prof Habib enlightened the visitors with details of artefacts on display such as ancient manuscripts on fragile leaves of birch bark, Mughal Farmans (directives issued on political, social, administrative and economical issues), coins from periods of different Mughal emperors, 6000-year-old antiquities, iron tools from the Kushan and Gupta periods and other items telling the story of thousands of years.
Prof Ali Nadeem Rezavi (Chairperson, Department of History), Prof Shireen Moosvi, Prof M Shafey Kidwai, Prof A K Amitava, Prof Ishrat Alam, Prof Mohammad Sajjad, Prof Syed Jabir Raza, Dr M K Pundhir, Prof Ruquia Hussain, Dr M Waseem Raja and other academicians were also present.
