27-OCT-2017: Lecture held at Sr Sec School (Boys)
ALIGARH, October 26: Dr Qazi S Azhar Ali, a Clinical Associate Professor in Michigan State University, USA delivered a lecture at the Saiyyid Hamid Senior Secondary School (Boys), Aligarh Muslim University on ?Science of Learning and Teaching for the Next Generation?. The lecture, which was followed by an interactive session, was attended by over 100 trained graduate and postgraduate teachers engaged in Science and Mathematics teaching at senior secondary school level.
In his lecture, Dr Ali described how teaching could be made more effective by emphasizing the activity based methodologies instead of rote method which is prevalent in our country for centuries. With the help of diagrams, charts and photographs, Dr Ali explained as to how information is stored and retrieved in the brain and how a systematic and well planned revision could improve retention of information learnt. He rejected the imposition of bureaucrats as policy makers in education on national level He emphasized the need to overhaul the curriculum at undergraduate level in view of the prevailing requirements and finding of contemporary research.
Earlier, Maj S M Mustafa (Retd), Principal of the School, presented an introduction of Dr Qazi S Azhar Ali, who despite being engaged in research in neuroscience, worked for improving the art of teaching. In association with some non-governmental organizations, Dr Ali has been visiting educational institutions in India and interacting with teachers and administrators to bring about improvements in teaching in Indian schools.
Prof Qazi Mazhar Ali, Department of Statistics and Operations, AMU appreciated the efforts of the school in holding such lectures.
Dr Arib Ali Khan, a senior teacher in the school, conducted the programme and proposed a vote of thanks.
