01-NOV-2017: Dept of Radiodiagnosis hosts 31st RICON-2017
Aligarh, October 31: The Department of Radiodiagnosis, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC) of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) hosted the 31st RICON-2017, Annual State Conference of Indian Radiological and Imaging Association (IRIA), UP State Chapter. The inaugural function of the conference was held at the JNMC Auditorium.
Attending the programme as the chief-guest, AMU Vice Chancellor, Professor Tariq Mansoor said that radiodiagnosis as a branch of medical science is taking diagnostic, therapeutic and research tools in medicinal practices to new levels with the latest developments in the field.
He added that it is imperative to develop interventional radiology to the needs of today?s patients and medical treatment requirements. Prof Mansoor pointed out that AMU stands proud with the ranking of JNMC in national and international academic ranking reputed and the university equally stands proud for JNMC alumni who are working in the hospitals and medical institutes in India and abroad.
The Vice Chancellor urged the IRIA to cut-down cost of investigations so that patients from the lower economic strata can easily afford treatments. He further urged doctors to not depend on investigations but rather rely on proper examinations.
He appreciated the work of the Department of Radiodiagnosis by saying that it has state-of ?art facilities and a hardworking team.
The guest of honour, Prof Mohanan Kunnummal (National President Elect, IRIA) said since the landscape of healthcare industry is poised for dramatic changes, radiologists need to be ready to adapt to thrive. He added that the radiologists face a lot of challenges and problems in their daily work and one of the biggest challenges is stop sex determination of fetus
Prof Kunnummal further said that some non-radiologists, running private clinics are indulging in sex determination of fetus and these clinics should be identified and strict action should be taken.
Prof S C Sharma (Dean, Faculty of Medicine and Principal, JNMC) said that radiology has progressed from plain film radiography to the most advanced imaging modalities like MRI and radiology assisted interventional procedures. He added that this conference will provide a chance to learn, interact and share knowledge.
Prof M Khalid (Chairperson, Department of Radiodiagnosis) said he was trying hard to bring Annual State Conference of IRIA to an academic institution for providing platform for student?s interaction with professionals in the field. He added that this is his third conference after taking charge as State Secretary of IRIA. Prof Khalid also presented the annual report of UP State Chapter, IRIA.
Prof Khalid was announced as the President Elect of IRIA, UP Chapter; while Prof Neera Kohli was announced as the new President. Earlier Prof Khalid was the State Secretary, IRIA, UP Chapter. Dr Vanaj Mathur has been appointed as the State Secretary, IRIA, UP Chapter.
Dr Aklesh Sharma (President, UP State Chapter) discussed activities and functions of IRIA.
Late Prof M U Qureshi and Prof Riaz Uddin were conferred with the life-time-achievement awards by IRIA. AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof Mansoor presented these awards. Meanwhile, Prof S K Bhargav, Prof Ikramullah, Prof Abrar Hasan and Prof Ashraf Malik also received awards.
Dr Shagufta Wahab (Organising Secretary, IRIA) proposed the vote of thanks. Dr Shariq Aqeel conducted the programme.
