Sir Syed fondly remembered in Qatar
ALIGARH, November 7: There would hardly be another personality in the world, apart from the great reformer of nineteenth century India and the founder of the Aligarh Muslim University, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, who is remembered with such fondness and love all over the world.
Continuing with the celebrations, the AMU Alumni Association, Qatar paid rich tributes to Sir Syed Ahmad Khan by organizing a commemorative function featuring literary and cultural events attended by more than 400 alumni and other guests.
Addressing on the occasion, the chief guest, Mr Mani Shankar Aiyar, noted scholar and former Cabinet Minister, said that Sir Syed will always be remembered for his modernist approach towards social transformation and for bringing about a change in the life of a large section of Indian population through modern and scientific education. He said that Sir Syed?s charisma is still working as a magic wand through the Aligarh Muslim University, which influences young minds and transforms their lives.
Mr Aiyyer demanded that Sir Syed be awarded with the Bharat Ratna, India?s highest civilian award, for his great services to humanity.
Dr. P. Mohammad Ali, Chairman, Galfar Group, Middle East, who also graced the function as a chief guest, urged the AMU alumni to develop entrepreneurship and resourcefulness. He said that Sir Syed?s message could be materialized only when AMU students became a torchbearer of his educational mission and helped poor and needy in attaining quality education.
Dr Mohammad Aleem, a diplomat in India?s mission, Mr Mohd Sabih Bukhari, Patron of the AMU Alumni Association, Qatar and Mr. Johny Foster, Music Teacher at AMU, who were the guests of honour, also spoke on the occasion.
Earlier, welcoming the guests, Mr Jawed Ahmad, President of the Association shed light on the life and works of Sir Syed, while Mr Imtiyaz Ahmad Malik, General Secretary presented the annual report.
Mr. Sarwar Mirza conducted the programme. A large number of AMU alumni living in Qatar remained present till the end of the programme which saw felicitation of members of Executive and Advisory committees by the chief guest.
